Discriminatory 'shadow' review process locks White, Asian students out of California med school, DOJ alleges

Harmeet Dhillon alleged UC San Diego School of Medicine used hardship essays as a proxy for race, admitting Black applicants at twice the rate of White applicants. This process, Dhillon stated, constituted a discriminatory "shadow" review that excluded White and Asian students.
