Twenty-five years ago, 2,977 innocent souls perished on September 11th. Few anniversaries in the life of a nation carry the weight of this one. Today, we remember the lives we lost, the families who have carried the anguish of that morning across a quarter-century, and the first responders whose courage revealed the very best of our country in its darkest hour. Today, we also remember the terrible cost of underestimating those who loathe our way of life and the barbarity they would unleash against it. At @USTreasury, we honor the thousands of victims we lost not by memory alone, but vigilance. By ensuring that those who threaten the United States find no sanctuary in the financial system. By nightfall on 9/11, Treasury had begun 24/7 operations to uncover, disrupt, and dismantle the financial networks that sustain terrorism. It hasn’t stopped working to protect the American people since. To continue the work that began the moment those towers fell. To remember what hatred is capable of—and to deny those consumed by it the means to ever inflict such evil again.
