Today in Supreme Court History: July 28, 1880

On July 28, 1880, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance prohibiting the operation of laundries in wooden buildings without permits. This ordinance was later upheld by the Supreme Court in *Mee Hing v. United States* as a valid exercise of police power.
