#ICYMI from @FBISacramento: A federal grand jury returned a seven-count indictment against Joseph “Charles” Henrichsen and his son, Phoenix Henrichsen. They are charged with two counts each of kidnapping a federal employee. Charles Henrichsen faces additional charges, including two counts of assaulting a federal employee with a deadly weapon, two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of assault on a federal officer. According to court documents, on July 16, 2026, two U.S. Forest Service employees were conducting routine environmental work near Gumboot Lake Campground when Charles Henrichsen approached them with a semiautomatic rifle. He bound their hands, and with Phoenix’s help, forced them into a remote trailer. The two employees were held there for the next 15 hours. The incident triggered a massive multi-agency response. Officers and agents from across the country converged on the remote Siskiyou County location. After hours of negotiations, FBI crisis negotiators secured the safe release of both victims and the surrender of both suspects. The defendants are in custody pending trial. Read more:
