A New Era for Hemispheric Defense Today, we honored more than 80 years of historic homeland defense as United States Army North cased its colors at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. From the sands of North Africa in 1943 to the modern defense of our homeland, the legacy of Fifth Army/ARNORTH is secure. As we close this chapter, we look forward to the future of regional security under the newly established U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command (USAWHC).
